Exploring Artist’s Books

In this book, the artist has chosen a simple book structure, and the binding is quite standard. However, using typography and space, playing with different kinds of paper and layering, the artist has created a sense of the drama and conflict that is the central theme of the Scottish play. Die-cuts, flaps and pop-ups are all used to add simple yet salient features that draw attention to themselves. Colours are used to create a dichotomy between the light and the dark, and the notions of morality and truth, justice and fairness war between themselves. The strong imagery really brings to mind the loss of sanity and clear thought, and there is a strong emphasis on the character's guilt.
